COLOUR BLIND

Reclaiming the divisive and often triggering ‘Golliwog’ character this project seeks to challenge opinions on current and past cultural racism. 

Accepted and often cherished at the time but now considered a derided symbol of racist oppression, the ‘cancelling’ of the Golliwog from history raises questions about a repression of past injustices rather than an acceptance of culpability by those responsible.

Inspired by the often cited statement ‘I Don’t See Colour’, one hundred digital artworks were created with the character demanding you see colour as he is transformed into a kaleidoscopic and celebratory array of different hues.

‘Colour By Statistics’ challenges the viewer to imagine their own interpretation of a monochrome version of the character.

This edition of ten unique T-Shirts features the character chaotically coloured by the artist.
